Arlington, Virginia History
Once part of the Colony of Virginia and granted by Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron, the area is named for Henry Bennet, the 1st Earl of Arlington, who owned a plantation along the banks of the Potomac River. Washington Park Custis, Martha Washington's grandson, bought the plantation in 1802 and eventually passed it to his sister, Mary Anna Custis Lee, who was married to Confederate General Robert E. Lee (whose home, Arlington House, still stands atop a hill overlooking the city and is now the grounds on which Arlington Cemetery is sited).
Now, more than a century later, Arlington is a perfect marriage of rich history and cosmopolitan living. Home to more than 200,000 people and 42,000 families, Arlington is home to a cavalcade of characters. Residents live seamlessly amongst notable folks like Warren Beatty and Shirley MacLaine (who are brother and sister, in case you didn't know), Sandra Bullock, Katie Couric, Roberta Flack, and Zac Hanson.

Fairlington in History
Not only is Fairlington a Historic Neighborhood but the land has a rich history. The original land set aside in the 1788 ratification of the U.S. Constitution for the seat of the federal government lies within Fairlington. At that time Washington DC extended across the Potomac River.
I love the beautiful homes in Lyon Village. Prices vary from the mid-600's to well over 3 million. Just a short stroll to the shops and restaurants of Clarendon as well.
Caring Hands Animal Hospital
The folks take great care of our cats. Scheduling is always easy and the assistants as well as the primary vets are very attentive.
Overlee Pool and Community Center
Overlee pool is Arlington's most sought after community pool membership. The waiting list is rather legendary, rumored to be 7 years long, but if you are lucky enough to buy a house which conveys with a membership, you can skip to the top. The Flying Fish are a regular #1 spot among the NVSL Division One swimming league. Overlee was recently remodeled and features lap, dive, social and baby pools, clubhouse, volleyball court and playgrounds. Overlee also offers a competitive and developmental diving team, adult and youth swimming lessons, early and late season passes and exercise classes. Insider tip- if you can't get in, apply for an August pass, they are usually available as that's when the competitive swim and dive season is over.
